HP OfficeJet Pro paper feed gear: checking the replacement
The printer model is the starting point for a gear search. The location and shape of the failed gear matter too: a paper-feed gear, carriage gear and split pinion perform different jobs and are separate parts.
Start with the full model label
Read the label on the printer rather than relying only on a family name such as OfficeJet or Photosmart. Our HP OfficeJet Pro paper-feed gear has verified fit for the 6950, 6970 and 6978. Other models mentioned on the listing need an original-part comparison before ordering.
Keep the complete model number with your photographs. A similar-looking printer or gear is not enough to establish that the replacement fits.
Identify which component you need
Compare the component being replaced with the product and measurement photographs. The OfficeJet paper-feed listing is separate from the Photosmart Premium 15-tooth carriage rod gear and the Photosmart split pinion supplied as two sections.
Paper-feed trouble alone does not prove a gear has failed. Use the manufacturer’s service instructions or a repair technician to identify the component before buying a replacement.
Compare the shape and mounting interface
Check the tooth pattern, gear width, shaft opening and any hub or shoulder against the original. Look at both sides of the part. Use the measurement photographs on the listing to compare the dimensions that are shown; do not estimate a bore size from an angled photograph.
Keep the original part until you have checked the replacement. If teeth are missing, include a photograph of the remaining tooth profile and the mounting location when asking for help.
What to send for a fit check
Send the printer model label, clear front and back photographs of the original gear, and a side view beside a ruler. Include any molded number or other marking. Our contact page is the place to ask about a model or part that is uncertain.
Printed parts are made to order. Orders ship from California within 3 calendar days with free USPS standard shipping to US addresses. The individual listing explains the package contents.
